COMING TO TERMS WITH MY GLACIAL NOW

ongoing. ice, poplar, granite, limestone slab

Granite stones are frozen into a miniature "glacier" and mounted in a wooden frame to become a hand-tool for scribing a line in a slab of limestone. The repetitive back-and-forth of the motion to scribe the line mimics the slow advance and retreat of the glacier at a faster cadence, and is reminiscent of flattening motions of hand-work with a plane in carpentry. This has been performed at multiple sites of glacial significance around the Great Lakes region.
