VISITING MY COUSINS UZURA & IMORI GAKURE (TIME-BASED, PERFORMANCE)

VISITING MY COUSINS UZURA & IMORI GAKURE (TIME-BASED, PERFORMANCE)

Documentation of an annual performance where I get to know a family of rocks in an abandoned limestone quarry on Kelley's Island in Lake Erie. The title alludes to two types of hiding in traditional ninjutsu where one mimics the behavior of a quail (Uzura / うずら) and a newt (Imori / 井守 ) to engage a stony environment as a site of convergence where the body merges into the landscape as an element. This vanishing into the stillness of a stone is achieved through the coordination of the conflicting temporalities of stone and flesh, a kind of psychogeographical mediation.
